Get to Know Dr. Amy Cha
After practicing dentistry for many years, Dr. Amy Cha is proud to join the Ellicott City Smiles family! When you meet her, you’ll immediately notice her caring nature and her interest in your overall well-being, not just your oral health. She is passionate about helping people and can’t wait to meet you and help you achieve a stronger, brighter smile.
Why Did You Decide to Become a Dentist?
Growing up, Dr. Cha knew she wanted a career in the healthcare field because of her love of helping those in need. After completing her undergraduate studies, Dr. Cha worked for several years on mental health and dental research projects. These work experiences not only afforded her the opportunity to observe firsthand the importance of oral health on an individual’s mental and systemic well-being, but also served as the impetus for her decision to pursue a career in the dental field: Through dentistry, she hopes to have a wider positive impact on people’s general well-being. She approaches dentistry by looking at the whole patient and strives to foster long-term relationships through quality, ethical, and compassionate dental care.
Where Did You Study Dentistry?
Dr. Cha obtained her BA degree in psychology from Georgetown University and her Doctorate of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Maryland. She continues to be passionate about helping people through dentistry. In fact, while in dental school, she was fortunate to participate in a dental mission trip to the Dominican Republic and completed an externship at Chase Brexton, where she helped socioeconomically underserved and medically compromised individuals with their dental needs. And over the last several years, she has enjoyed participating in a few free dental clinic events as a way of giving back to communities and helping those in need.
Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?
As a Maryland native, Dr. Cha currently lives in Ellicott City. She enjoys spending as much time as she can with her husband and two sons. When they are not cheering on their kids during their various sporting activities and games, they all enjoy going on hikes and bike rides, playing sports together, playing board games, completing puzzles, and having movie nights. Individually, Dr. Cha is a bit of a foodie and enjoys cooking as well as trying new foods and restaurants. She also spends her free time doing artistic hobbies, traveling, playing tennis, and running.
