What are Periodontal Scaling and Root Planing?

Periodontal scaling is used to remove plaque and tartar located at or below the gum line by gently scraping them away from the tooth’s crown and root. Root planing is the smoothing of the root’s surface after scaling. This is typically done by our hygienist Brenda, using local anesthesia to eliminate discomfort during treatment.
